Summers In Undiscovered Mountains Summer vacations! The one season everyone waits for. Even though it brings in the humidity and heat for most of the country, it also brings in the holiday season which is always on everyone’s mind. We are going to take you on a journey of fantastic offbeat destinations, nestled in the mountains, away from the pollution, noise, and most importantly the heat of the fast-paced cities. In this blog, we are going to introduce you to some of the most exquisite and secret destinations that Himachal Pradesh has to offer.

Tirthan Valley Let’s start with our first beautiful destination, Tirthan Valley. The name of this picturesque valley comes from the Tirthan river. This valley is the main hub for the Great Himalayan National Park (GHNP), because of which this valley has come on the maps. This valley is blessed with some of the most spectacular natural beauty you will ever see. It also has a bunch of activities that cater to everyone’s needs. The day hikes or treks on the known and unknown trails are for every individual. May it be an experienced trekker, or someone trying to figure out whether they like it or not.

You can trek to the pristine Selosar lake, which reflects the blue of the sky and the green of the pine forest. The valley is also surrounded by beautiful villages, where people stay in rustic riverside homes, which will make you want to pack your bags and move to the mountains. Every architecture enthusiast’s breath is most definitely taken away. These houses are nestled in fruit orchards and are also homes to some of the happiest villagers you will see, who will bring a smile to your face. These locals have also continued to live in a very traditional manner maintaining their ancient customs and following the age-old rituals of the local temples. A must visit temple is The Shringi Rishi Temple, which has intricate wood carvings that depict the 24 different births of God.

Another fantastic place you have to visit is the Chehni Kothi, a towering 1,500-year old castle built with stone slabs and wooden beams. This is the tallest free-standing structure in the entire Western Himalayan region.

The Tirthan River is also home to an abundant population of rainbow and brown trout. Hence this is one of India’s most well kept secret fishing camps. Once you get a licence, you can fish in the clear glacial waters. The fish that you cath can be barbequed while you camp under the stars at night! Along with fresh fish straight from the river, another delicacy is the Himalayan trout that you cannot miss out on! It’s absolutely delicious. Another local item that this valley has to offer is the Siddu. It is kind of a bread that is made of wheat flour, which is served hot, drenched in ghee and homemade apple chutney. If you are a foodie, you must also try to get your hands on Kullu Dham. It’s a seven-course meal untouched by onion or garlic, the recipes for which have passed through generations of Kulluites without any dilution.

Pabbar Valley Another concealed valley in Himachal is the gorgeous Pabbar Valley. This valley is located ahead of Shimla is has some of the most flourishing apple orchards, along with dense forests of deodar and oak. Housing the stunning Chanshal mountain range, this valley is a haven for all you off-beat travellers! The Chansal pass remains open from May to October, and hence the summers are the best time to visit this valley! Like Tirthan Valley, Pabbar is also known for trout fishing along the banks of the Pabbar River. The Pabbar valley is known as a paradise for anglers.

The cities that are worth visiting in these areas are Hatkoti and Rohru. Hatkoti has a splendid temple of goddess Durga, which is surrounded by green fields. And Rohru has a cute hill town market. Another stunning temple, which also has a beautiful view that you must visit is the Hanol Mahasu Temple. It is situated at an altitude of 1429 m in the village of Hanol, 55 km from Rohru on the eastern bank of the Taons. This temple constructed in Huna style architecture is dedicated to Mahasu.

The Pabbar valley will definitely fulfil all your adventure cravings! It is a great landscape for trekkers and hikers, who can then camp under the clear starry sky, in the middle of the wilderness. You can also take it a step further and partake in activities like hang gliding and paragliding, which will ensure you get consumed in some of the most picturesque views.

Shoja Lofty mountains covered in verdure, snow-capped peaks and almost nothing to do, that’s what exactly what Shoja promises. This village is still off the beaten path and maybe that’s why it is still undiscovered. This breathtaking village is covered with sloping mountains, that are laced with conifers and deodars that stretch for miles! It may be a tough route to follow to reach here, a bunch of buses might have to be taken, but we promise you, it will all be worth it. The accommodation options in this pristine village are few, but doesn’t that add to the charm of it all? Though few, the accommodations in this village are cosy and comfortable and provide healthy home-cooked food.

Your stay at Shoja won’t really be filled with activities. This quaint village teaches you the meaning of true relaxation! A beautiful natural paradise, that’s about 5 km from Shoja, is the Jhalori pass. You can drive to a certain point and then start a steep trek for about an hour and a half. This trek will be absolutely rejuvenating as you will pass a dense forest with a huge variety of flowers, herbs and medicinal plants. When you reach the top, you will get the breathtaking panoramic view of the Himalayas, which will make the steep trek worth it! Another good place to visit on the day you reach is the waterfall point. It would be a short trek from the village.
